Over the course of the last week I have received around 500 emails with 499 of them being very positive and supportive. Some of those even came from people who have never smoked pot and disagree with my views on the drug war.
Like this one for instance
Mrs. Nall, I've got to say that I admire your determination and candidness. More politicians should speak their minds without worrying about what effect it will have on public opinion polls.
While you and I may not see eye to eye on the marijuana issue, I can't help but agree that there is a major problem within our prison system. They're overcrowded, understaffed and underfunded. There's not enough emphasis on rehabilitation and treatment......My best to you, Mrs. Nall. You haven't got my vote for the election, but I wish you luck.
Then today I got one from a lady who heard me on the radio on Friday in Montgomery who supports the drug war and claims to be a recovered addict. She has requested that I drop out of the race which is kind of funny in a really sad way.
Apparently she is now hooked on Jesus instead of drugs and I don't think it has helped her mental state all that much. She thinks it is perfectly ok for Roy Moore to be in the race but my candidacy somehow tarnishes the squeaky clean reputation of Alabama politics.
So, I'd like to pose this question to my fellow Alabamians who are reading this and may be religious.
What Would Jesus Do About the Drug War?
Would Jesus lock people up in cages and the ostracize them from society?
or
Would Jesus seek to minimize harms associated with drug use and heal the person suffering from addiction?

You raise a very interesting point, Mrs. Nall. I, for one consider myself a Christian. A Church of God Christian, to be exact and I beleive that my God is very displeased with our current state of affairs, politically speaking.
I also believe that so much is being stated about the drug issue that most people are missing your whole stance....it has, like you stated before, as much to with drugs as the Boston Tea party had to do with tea.
I believe that my Lord and Saviour would rather people who are hurt and in pain use something that would actually help them than some of the drugs that they are on that truly don't work, oxycontin, methadone and the like are severely addictive and can cause more harm than good.
As for the prison system, I believe that Jesus would want them filled with persons who actually deserve to be there.
You have this Christians vote.
Thank you Heather for responding to this question.
True Christians always feel the way that you do when asked this question. I find that just getting someone to consider it on those terms has a great impact.
Would you be willing to speak to others who share your faith about this issue?
Dah'lin', I'm one step ahead of you. I will talk, yell and stomp my feet to get others to hear my point of view concerning this matter.
I'm actually talking to folks now, I printed out your platform and ballot access from your website and have started getting signatures.
I emailed you a few days ago offering any help so if there's more that I can do, please let me know....as soon as you get a free chance, that is... :)
Ready for Change,
Heather W Smith
