A Documentary on Sexual Repression and the Anti-Obscenity Laws

I got the following email yesterday from Smart Media LLC asking for me to be a part of a documentary film because of my activism around this issue. From what I understand after talking with them this film will be something that you wouldn't be embarrassed to watch in the company of others. It has a more educational and investigative journalism theme to it and the main goal is to answer the question of why sex and masturbation are portrayed as such a negative acts.

I agreed to be in the film of course. The film crew should arrive in late March or the first week of April.

Dear Loretta Nall,

I am involved with the production of a documentary film that provides an educational study of human sexuality from a medical, legal and moral perspective. We have already interviewed a number of celebrated figures including former Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders and political activist Sherri Williams, as well as a number of celebreted authors, sexologists and educators. As part of the film, we are following Alabama ’s Anti-Obscenity law passed in 1998. We are seeking to do interviews with those Alabama based political figures and citizens both against and in support of the law. A portion of the proceeds for the film will be given to a number of charitable foundations like the Aids Healthcare Foundation and The National Cancer Institute. Your participation will help benefit those contribution efforts.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at the number below. If I don't hear from you soon, I will be sure to follow up with a call since we are currently planning a production trip to Alabama from Los Angeles. I look forward to speaking with you.

What a great opportunity to get sex-positive viewpoints in front of people!

Also a great venue to point up the absurdity of Alabama's obscenity laws, including, of course, the sex toy ban...
