What a Dick!

South Carolina Sheriff Plans to Charge Phelps for Smoking Pot

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says he will charge Michael Phelps with a crime if he determines the Olympics hero smoked marijuana in Richland County.

Phelps, who set a record with eight gold medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics, was photographed smoking a marijuana pipe at a November party in Columbia.

What is the point in charging Phelps? The IOC has determined that everything is ok and most of Phelps sponsors are still with him. The sheriff has nothing to gain by further fucking up this outstanding athletes career.

I say go ahead and treat him like he was some poor black kid. Once these stupid laws are enforced on the rich and famous, put every rich pot smoking kid in prison for three years and they will get rid of these stupid laws in no time at all.

What does the Sheriff have to gain? Everything! He may be invited to be on Larry King, Fox News, and,who knows, he could be the next Joe the Plumber.

Joe needs a little help. The Right Wingnuts are giving him more work than he can get to.

What are they gonna do? Send him to drug rehab?
I hope the Sheriff does go on CNN, Fox, etc.
This will bring more attention to the stupid reaction of this Sheriff and the absurdity of expending resources on arresting college kids(or anyone else for that matter) for smoking a little pot.
Maybe the citizens of Richland County will pay attention to where their Sheriff puts his priorities.

How in the world will they prove it was pot that he smoked? Have to have a toxicology report.

I've been reading the news on Michael Phelp's recent issue occasionally and have been sad to see the media making it out to be a scandal and sad to see that there was even a need to apologize. I'm a 38 yo attorney with a Master of Science in Public Health. I don't normally post messages outside my small circle of craft brewing websites, but this recent story has really ticked me off. It is a shame that the Richland County sheriff's department feels the need to grandstand like this. I assume there's a District Attorney with political aspirations behind this. Id so, I really hope this does his career more damage than good. Law enforcement certainly has more important things to do than to prosecute an American hero for enjoying something less harmful than cigarettes or alcohol.
