Ballot Access Editorial in BHAM News

The Birmingham News has a great editorial on ballot access and Rep. Cam Ward's bill HB142 to change it.

Go Read it Here and leave a comment when you are done. Also, please call/visit the members of the Constitution and Elections committee and ask for their support of this bill when Rep. Ward brings it back up in a few weeks.

Thanks BHAM News for supporting desperately needed changes in Alabama's ballot access laws and thanks to Rep. Cam Ward who is courageous enough to bring this bill back year after year. It will eventually pass.

Give This Bill Legs!

Rep. Cam Ward (R- Shelby) has introduced HB738 a bill that would make ballot access easier for third party and independent candidates, and has written a blog post about it called Ballot Access Should Be Easier over at Doc's.

Alabama has the worst ballot access laws in the country. This is one of the main reasons our state government is so screwed up. There is no competition on the ballot. It's always the same people from the same parties running, election after election. If you complain about how things never change then here is your chance to break that cycle.

Please go read Cam's post and start rounding up support for HB738 which would make ballot access easier to obtain for third party and Independent candidates.

Federal Appeals Court Considers Alabama Ballot Access Laws

Dan over at Between the Links has a good summary of the appeal heard by the 11th Circuit in Atlanta a few days ago.

Here's hoping they do the right thing and make the ballot open to everyone who is eligible to run and wishes to do so.
