I HATE Wal-Mart

I really do.

This has been a tough week financially for my family so I had to ask my mom to loan me a few bucks til payday so we'd have gas money.

She went to Wal-Mart in Talladega and bought a Wal-Mart Money Gram from the Wal-Mart Money Center. She filled in all of the necessary info and popped it in the mail to me. It arrived today.

So, I have a cheap dinner all planned in my head for the family tonight and gas money left over. I pick my husband up from work and break the devastating news that he will have to endure a Wal-Mart stop before he can make it home.

We go into the Wal-Mart in Alexander City to get the money order cashed at the Wal-Mart Money Center. I waited in line for oh say 25 minutes before I finally get to the desk. When I get up there and present my money order I am told that Wal-Mart Money Center cannot cash a Wal-Mart Money Gram because that Wal-Mart Money Gram is made out to me and not to Wal-Mart.

I said, "Huh? Wal-Mart sold this money order to my mother who then sent it to me. What do you mean you won't cash your own Money order?"

Stupid Wal-Mart Bovine: "Well its made out to you...not us."

Seriously Irate Loretta Nall: "Yeah but your company issued the money order. Why on earth would someone buy a money order from Wal-Mart and then turn around and make the money order out to Wal-Mart?

Stupid Wal-Mart Bovine: "Well she should have left the payee part blank. It's like a third party check now."

Seriously Irate Loretta Nall: "Yeah...like you are gonna buy a money order and fill in everything but who it is payable to and pop it in the mail. You'd do that right? It is nothing like a third party check at all because YOU KNOW the money is there because I wouldn't have this money order that WAL-Mart Money center issued if she had not paid for it. This can't be right. Call me a manager."

Stupid Wal-Mart Bovine calls a Customer Service Manager, which is nothing more than a glorified cashier, and not a manager at all. It just so happened to be one that I never cared for when I worked in that hell hole. She starts spouting off the same nonsense about it has to be made out to Wal-Mart.

Stroke Level Loretta Nall: "So, what you are saying is that Wal-Mart only cashes money orders that they issue if they are made out to Wal-Mart? Why would anyone buy a Wal-Mart money order and then make the damn thing out to Wal-Mart? Does Wal-Mart explain all of this when they sell these money orders? Do they tell customers that they should send blank money orders in the mail? No one in their right mind would send a blank money order in the mail. The Post Office cashes the money orders they issue. I don't understand why you won't honor your own money order."

CSM Bovine: "Yadda yadda ydadda the rules ...blah blah blah."

She started getting that smartass tone to her voice and I had to give her a refresher course in good customer service, as in "Don't get smart with me you bitch I pay your salary." I didn't say bitch but it was strongly implied. I also reminded her that she is NOT a MANAGER, which is what I requested, and I still wanted to see a manager...not a cashier.

When the manager whose name was 'Nannie' showed up I could take no more. I just turned around and left before my fractured nerves caused me to lose it and pummel every-fuckin-body in the store.

So, tonight we are eating Ramen donated by a friend who we gave a ride home and tomorrow we will be riding on fumes.

Goddamn I HATE WAL-MART and after today I don't believe I will ever shop there again if I can avoid it.

Loretta, Today was the first time that I became aware of your existence, via the internet. Linking through other sites, can lead you to some incredible people. I do not watch the news, or participate in many government related areas. I grew up in foster care, here in Birmingham, Al. And since a young child (now 30) have never believed nor cared for how things were going in our country. This dissatisfaction extended with age to include other areas, such as military agendas(being a teenager during Desert Storm), then to views on medical care, or gov't assisted programs, (becoming a young single mother who worked. Then, as a young adult, (22) I was introduced to another culture which was vastly misrepresented, and villianized. My beliefs (or perhaps lack thereof) grew until I desired to go to college in order to become a freelance writer in support of issues that were dear to me. Child Abuse,DHR,Medicaid,Foodstamps,Marijuana, and the entire "drug war" and even my religious path changed. I didnt finish the college. Perhaps one day! Instantly- Reading articles about your campaign and stance I felt a kinship with your ideals, and from your blogs, I feel a definate kinship in your attitudes about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I know you must have many people you correspond with, but, I would ask, humbly, that if you have room for one more- that I be considered. My name is Holly and I can be reached at jason_gentry81@yahoo.com
I would also be a helper for any more political activity you have planned. Thankyou for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

loretta, as a former money center associate, and current csm, i must say im confused as to why they wouldnt take your money order. money gram, and walmart corporate policy says that those idiots should have cashed your money order if it was either made out to you or walmart. if it had been made out to someone else, then its a different story, but yeah, i'm getting pretty fed up with the corporate beaurocracy that seems to have infested this company. things sure have gone downhill since sam walton passed on. poor man must be spinning in his grave

OMG!! I am going through the same situation now with a WALMART MONEY ORDER! You don't understand how frustrated I am with Walmart and this whole Money Order situation. THE MONEY IS THERE! WTF? WHY can't they cash THEIR own Money Order. and WTF do they mean it has to be made out to them, like you said...who leaves a money order blank?? THIS IS FREAKING RIDICULOUS! I'm Calling CORPORATE!

I work at the Money Center in a walmart and I don't know why they wouldn't take it either. We take money orders as long as they are from walmart. It can be written out to walmart or the customer.

Boy that is funny, I dunno if they just changed the rules or what but I just recently cashed a money gram from walmart made out to me and had no problem doing it. You just had some bitchy customer service....and belive me tose bitches spread ALL the way up to Everett WA I hate going to cash my payroll check there every 2 weeks, I onll do it because I dont have a bank account, and yes I to wait in a 30-45 minute line just to put up with some gum snappin bitch...I know your pain, and I to am riding on fumes, get this I have a money order made out to me from WAMU I called customer service to see if I could cash it and they said I would have no troubles, so I just drove about 20 minutes to cash it and was told they would not do it because I dont bank with them. WTF???? Are you serious so then I go to wonderful Walmart I look at the long line and think to myself, do I really want to spend my lunch break at Walmart??? So I go to ask a Walmart associate (If that's what you even call the creepy door people) She barely spoke english, I ask "Does Walmart cash money orders?" She said "Yes" I then said "Do they cash non-walmart money orders?" She then said "No" I mean WTF??? Get it together thier jobs can not be that hard!!!! Any ways I understand!!!

Loretta,

I too hate Wal Mart and wish a mass number of people would quit shopping there so the damn place might go out of business. I am serving in the military and flew home to Alabama to spend Christmas with family. I had not completed my shopping and made the mistake of purchasing two Visa gift Cards at the Jacksonville SuperCenter. I realize that I should have kept my receipts, but at no time did the cashier mention that I would need them to get pin numbers. I mistakenly thought that you could dial the number on label attached to the front of the card. The label clearly refers to the number in activating the card. To my dismay, however, I later learned that I would need the pin number from the receipt. Upon realizing that I couldn't find my receipts, I returned to the Jacksonville SuperCenter and began the lengthy ordeal of dealing with Wal Mart employees. I first dealt with with some old hag and quickly realized that she didn't know her head from her ass. I told her to go ahead and get the manager thinking maybe he would be better. He wasn't and was more femenine than the old hag. I explained what had happened and requested assistance in activating the cards that I had purchased in his damn store. I went as far as giving him the date and time of the purchase. The manager informed me that he would have to go and manually check the registers to determine that the cards were actually purchased there. He stated this and then stood there as if hoping I would say not to bother. I of course told him that he should go ahead and check the registers. After waiting for about 45 minutes, the manager returned and said that there was no record that the numbers on the front of the card matched any card sold in his store. He returned to check this out two more times only to tell me the same thing. This seems very convenient. My wife has taken over dealing with this issue since, as I don't want to get in trouble for what I may say. To make a long story a little shorter, however, we have been given the runaround. My wife has talked with VISA and to the GE Money Bank. It appeared that we were finally getting some help when we were given a phone number to the GE Money Bank. Getting a live person to talk with us, however, has proven impossible. A card number has to be entered, but when my wife entered the number you can guess the response. The message indicated that the number was not valid. It is my intent to never shop at Wal Mart again and I will share my experiences with others in hopes that they too will boycott this store. I hate that store and wish nothing good for them.

OMG.....THIS IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS SITUATION I HAVE ENCOUNTERED IN A LONG LONG TIME.!!

So I on the other hand purchased a money order from WalMart and accidently filled it out to the wrong place so I immediately returned to WalMart with receipt and everything and I could not cash thier own money order back in to them..!! It was a complete error on my part and I would have no problem paying a small fee to return this but no, the only thing I was told I could do was to fill out a form and send it to MoneyGram and be charged a $15.00 fee plus have to wait up to 65 days to recieve a check!! And the real sad thing about this whole situation is there is nothing posted inside WalMart stating this policy nor is it on any receipt. When I spoke with WalMart officials about this they told me they dont have any room to post this policy. lol Being the LARGEST retailer in the world my advice to you would be EXPAND then!!
Signed,
NOT A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER AT ALL

walmart changed the policy. Atleast the one near me did. I am now allowed to cash a money order made out to me at walmart. As long as walmart was the one to initially fill the money order. I got this approved after 3 days of working up the corporate ladder.

Go danman1453 Go! I am glad someone has more patients to work up the Wal-Mart chain of command than I do. You have done a great service for human kind :)

I am the department manager over a WalMart Money Center and that is a crock of shit....We cash them all the time, all you have to have is a valid government issued ID (eg non-expired driver's license)....the Home Office has decided they need to charge $3 for doing this now (sorry everyone, this is not MY decision, I only have to enforce it to keep my job)

Virtual Memory sure is becoming cheaper and cheaper and cheaper. I wonder when we will finally reach the rate of $0.01 to 1 Gigabyte.

I can't wait for the day when I will finally be able to afford a 20 TB hard drive, hahaha. But for now I will be satisfied with having a 16 GB Micro SD in my R4i.

Got ripped by the same Walmart MoneyScam! We did everything right, got receipts, jumped through all the hoops like entering my SSN (wonder if it's legal for a merchant to require an SSN to cash a money order) and giving them my unexpired driver license. AND... they flat refuse to give us my husband's hard-earned $200 that we so need right now for food! My husband had been away on business, we recently moved and don't have a bank account yet, and he thought buying this money order from Walmart would tide me and the family over until his return. Well, things are never that simple, are they? My husband has returned and the Walmart here won't even refund him his money back on this worthless piece of paper! So MoneyScam gives us the $15 and 65 days crap. So we're supposed to go without food for MoneyScam? Thieves! That's my husband's money! I'm not surprised. I didn't expect good service from Walmart. They lost a $2000-a-month customer household (big extended family) over this stupidity! We're sick of Walmart treating good customers like you know what! Walmart's bloated corpocracy is sliding downhill so badly. I remember way back when that Walmart was an okay place, but I'm not a Walmart believer anymore.
