Chicago police may scrap entrance exam to bolster minority hiring.
More stupid people with guns and badges in positions of authority....yep, that's just what we need in America. Why would anyone with half a brain want to make someone a cop if that someone couldn't pass a cop entrance exam? Isn't the exam there for the purpose of determining who is qualified and who is not? They might as well start rounding up homeless people and mental patients and deputizing them.
I think it should be a requirement that any cop anywhere in the US possess at least a four year college degree.
Remind me never to visit Chicago.

I'm not sure the test given now is keeping bad cops out. I guess it's better than nothing. I agree cops should be thoroughly tested, and psychological testing should be part of it. If we could raise law enforcement to a truely professional level maybe we wouldn't have so many f'd up cops.

Looking at video of some police actions (G20, '08 RNC, etc) you'd think that's what they were already doing!
The idea of 4 yrs of higher education is a great one but it does no good w/o some type of psycological screening to weed out the control freaks and applicants that kept getting thier lunch money stolen as kids and now want revenge against the world. When they hired security for woodstock all those yrs back they did a simple test to see how the off duty cops they hired for security would react in dfferant situations like coming across 2 people sharing a moment of intamacy or some one who OD. or if some one was smoking a joint. Their answers determined weather they got the job. Now if we can do that for a concert why cant we do it for the people we entrust with our safety on a daily basis?
Chicago is already the worst place in the United States in terms of laws forbidding people to use guns for self-defense. The local government must be on a mission to eliminate or drive away from the city limits all non-violent, non-criminally inclined people.

Sounds good on the surface, though I'm not sure how helpful it will be. Federal agents are all college-educated, often with advanced degrees, and they are even more brutal and thuggish than local cops. Of course, that is because they have way too much corrupting power. Local police, with their relatively limited power, might be made more civil with a good education.
I went to school with a chap who painted his face in camo and held his girlfriend hostage for several hours because he thought she was cheating on him. It made the news in dc. Now he's the most decorated sheriff in pg county md. history. Did I mention both his parents were cops and he was never charged with anything.
