At the opening of every legislative session there is an opening prayer followed by the pledge of allegiance. The prayer is broadcast over the live audio feed but the pledge is silenced. Why?
For the record I don't care for the prayer or the pledge in my legislative sessions...but I am really curious as to why the prayer is broadcast but the pledge is not.
Does anyone know the answer?

Is it possible that the prayer is given through a microphone and the pledge is recited by everyone and not led by someone using a mic? Know what I mean? It's reassuring to know that religion plays no part in politics in our great state.
That's possible...however, the person(s) giving the pledge are in front of a mic and can be clearly heard before they hit the silence button.
Last week some women sang "My country tis of thee" along with a second verse that was very religious after the prayer but before the pledge and it was broadcast. The pledge was not.
No clue then. Seems pretty weird. I would assume the supposed super patriot types would want the pledge broadcast.
I work there... It happens because the entire room is reciting the pledge, and if they don't silence the mic, only the people on the mic are heard.
Thanks for the explanation Brett. I was really curious about that.
Brandon you were correct.
