UPDATE: I just got the following note from Rep. Patricia Todd.
We have another delay with the bill. It seems that the Leg Ref Ser gave me a version of the bill that is NOT the same as the version passed by Judicary in 07. I will have to get LRS to draft a substitute bill that is the same so the committee will be able to pass it.
This means another week delay.....

DO NOT SHOW UP IN MONTGOMERY TOMORROW!
Just a reminder that HB434 The Michael Phillips Compassionate Care Act will be heard in judiciary committee tomorrow, April 8 at 9 a.m.
If you plan to attend we will be meeting up on the steps of the State House at 8:15 a.m. The State House is located at 11 South Union St. in Montgomery and the judiciary committee meets in room 123. If there is any way possible that you can be there we would love to have you.
If you can't be there please take a moment today to call the following members of the judiciary committee and ask them to vote yes on HB434 tomorrow. Currently, these members plan to vote NO and they really need to hear from a huge number of people today about this bill. 76% of Alabamians support medical marijuana and their NO vote indicates a complete disregard for the will of the people. Please take a moment and give them a call.
Spencer Collier - (334) 242-7719 spencer.collier@alhouse.org
Paul DeMarco -(334) 242-7740 paul.demarco@alhouse.org (REALLY BURN HIS PHONE UP)
Jamie Ison -(334) 242-7711 jamie.ison@alhouse.org
Yusuf Salaam - 334-242-7746
Steve McMillan - 334-242-7723 steve.mcmillan@alhouse.org
Howard Sanderford - 334-242-4368 howard.sanderford@alhouse.org
I hope to see you at the State House tomorrow. Please let me know if you will be attending by emailing me at lorettanall@gmail.com or by replying to this post.
Sorry Musk, you are NOT in control.

Does this mean the wording in the bill we have been reading is not what will be voted on?
I'm not sure what it means really. The 2007 bill is the one that got assigned to sub-committee and died there. It was never passed so it makes no sense to me that the 2007 bill would have anything to do with this bill. This is the bill we want passed. It is the same one introduced (but never placed on the calendar) last year. We don't want the 2007 bill.
From what Rep Todd said, it sounds like she’s going to present to the committee a bill that is the same as the 2007 bill, which you say we don’t want. We need some clarification from her.
Here is what I have learned about this.
It isn't the 2007 bill because that was never passed out of committee. It was assigned to subcommittee where it died because of Paul DeMarco and Spencer Collier and Steve McMillan.
The 2006 bill is what she meant to say and it was the worst bill ever because it mandated that the medical marijuana would have to be distributed by an FDA approved pharmacy...which pretty much gutted the bill because marijuana is not an FDA approved medicine and therefore cannot be sold in a regular pharmacy.
I don't want that bill passed. None of the patients I am working with want that bill passed because it is a USELESS bill that does not provide for how patients get their supply. If we wanted that bill passed we would have introduced that bill again last year and this year.
And how come it took two weeks to discover this 'mistake'? I'm not buying any of these excuses.
What this new development means is that the session is over for us. Even if they pass the shitty 2006 bill there is no time left to get it through the rules committee and then to the house floor for a debate. SO we are right back where we started from....for the sixth year.
I see all of this as political fuckery. Somebody, somewhere doesn't want this bill to come up and I think they may have gotten to Rep. Todd. If that is the case then I will be real disappointed in her for cowing down on an issue that she supposedly believes in with all her heart.
I think maybe it is time for some serious direct action at the Alabama state house. Playing nice isn't working out so well. Its time to get nasty.
Does Rep Todd say why they can't vote on the bill that was introduced as written? It certainly does sound like bs.
This is really disappointing.
Don,
Nope. No explanation except for the one that makes no sense.
